The Food and Drug Administration is an agency within the US Department of Health and Human Sources.
Their job is to protect human health using current scientifically validated information.
They can review products, inspect facilities, issue deficiency and/or warning letters, suspensions and approvals, recalls, import detentions, seizures, injunctions, and prosecutions.
The Food Safety Modernization Act was the biggest reform to our food safety system in 70 years.
Preventive Controls for Human Food was one of the regulations passed in that act.
It focuses on identifying food safety hazards and implementing preventive controls for significant hazards that pose a significant risk to consumers by implementing monitoring, corrective actions and corrections, verification, record keeping, and a recall plan.
